Ball of Foot Pain

Neuroma's

The ball of the foot is vulnerable to high pressure and if the foot is constantly restricted in tight footwear, walking on hard uneven surfaces and required to pivot, the chances are a nerve inflammation/growth will develop. The most common site is between the third and fourth toes.

Sensations of a neuroma range from a burning to a sharp pain to an awareness of the presence of a swelling. A podiatrist will assess the foot for signs of nerve inflammation or if symptoms have been present for a while there may actually be a growth of extra tissue around the nerve. Treatment can vary from simply changing shoes to requiring surgery, so early intervention is best.
